Pochi brani estratti da De Rerum Natura raccolti in un pamphlet. Sono sufficienti a caratterizzare Lucrezio come un grande pensatore universale che naviga con la sua poesia fra psicologia e fisica. Mostrando tratti di modernità eccelsa, soprattutto quando analizza l'animo dell'uomo, e invece pesanti vuoti scientifici, come era ovvio che fosse al tempo.
A pamphlet gathering some parts of De Rerum Natura, the most well known of Lucrezio's poems. Even if they are just few pages, they are enough to show the exceptional ability of the poet to careen between psychology and physics. Showing traits of great modernity, particularly when he analyzes men souls, and instead big gaps in understanding science of life, as one should expect given he lived over 2000 years ago.

L'Etica Protestante e lo Spirito del Capitalismo - Max Weber
Una volta di più mi ritrovo a rallegrarmi di aver letto la versione integrale di un testo di cui avevo sentito parlare in università o altrove. Infatti la lettura integrale mi ha fatto capire che, lungi dal teorizzare un nesso causale ineluttabile fra l'etica protestante, in particolare quella calvinista, e la nascita e crescita del modello economico capitalistico, Weber fa un lavoro egregio di sociologia delle religioni della quale moltri altri autori beneficeranno. Invece lascia aperta la questione sul nesso causale, utilizzando questo saggio più come un primo mattone sulla ricerca omnia delle relazioni fra sociologia, psicologia, politica, storia, ed economia, dove i nessi causali possono svilupparsi in più direzioni.
Once more I am very glad I read the full version of a classic essay, which I had heard of in university or otherwise. Reading it all helped me understand that Weber did not write this to propose a conclusive theory of a causal link between the protestant ethic, in particular Calvinism, and capitalism. Weber instead writes a great essay on the sociology of religions, which many other authors will use as a starting point for follow up dissertations. Instead he leaves the causal link question open. He rather uses this essay as a first building block of a much more ambitious research project on the relationship between sociology, psychology, politics, history and economics, where causal links can develop in any direction.
