Democracy in America - Alexis de Tocqueville

Un classico della teoria politica, al pari di mostri sacri come Platone e Macchiavelli, o almeno così avevo sempre sentito dire. Beh, dopo averlo letto direi che nulla ha da invidiare a Macchiavelli questa lucida e dettagliatissima analisi della nascita e soprattutto della sostenibilità della democrazia nella repubblica federale degli Stati Uniti d'America. Attualissimo! A classic of science policy that can be compared with the likes of Platone and Macchiavelli, or so they say. After reading it, I must admit that this is certainly not second to Macchiavelli for the lucid and very detailed analysis of how the democracy was born and , most importantly, how it is kept alive in the federal republic of the United States of America. Still very relevant after two centuries!

Abolire la Proprietà Intellettuale - Michele Boldrin, David K. Levine

Condivido a pieno la tesi di Boldrin e Levin secondo cui i diritti di proprietà intellettuale sono ostacoli inutili alla diffusione di innovazioni, anche se non condivido tutte le premesse neo-classiche di questi due economisti. Gli articoli sono ben argomentati anche senza cadere nell'eccessiva analisi econometrica. I fully share Boldrin and Levin's thesis that intellectual property rights are only a useless barrier to innovation, although I do not share all the neo-classical premises of these two economists. All articles are well argued even without presenting the details of their econometric analysis.

Logica da Zero a Godel - Francesco Berto

Era da tempo che volevo leggere un testo di logica a metà fra il testo scolastico e il libro divulgativo. Questo mi è parso un ottimo compromesso. Anche se, letto a spizzichi e Bocconi come lettura estiva mi è risultato ostico, soprattutto nella seconda parte. I've been thinking of reading something about logic for a long time. Something sitting in between a university course book and a paperback. This was an excellent compromise, although, as I read it without strong focus during vacation, I found it tough, especially in the second half.

El Premio - Manuela Vázquez Montalban

Ironia, malizia, intrigo, ma nessuna forma di violenza gratuita da thriller moderno. Era la prima volta che leggevo un libro con protagonista Pepe Carvalho, ma devo ammettere che è la cosa più vicina all'eleganza di Maigret che abbia mai avuto il piacere di sfogliare. Irony, malice, intrigue, but no violence at all, unlike other contemporary thriller. This was the first time I read a story with Montalban's proverbial character Pepe Carvalho, but I must admit, this is the closest thing to Maigret's smart elegance I've ever flipped through.
