In un girovagare in qualche remoto aeroporto mi sono fatto incuriosire da questa biografia, dalla quale Clint Eastwood ha tratto recentemente un film. Ancor di più che per la precedente lettura della biografia di uno dei Navy Seal coinvolti nell'uccisione di Bin Laden, mi sono trovato spiazzato per l'assoluta certezza con cui il protagonista narra di essere convinto di fare la cosa giusta ad ammazzare i suoi nemici, o a prendere a cazzotti qualcuno in un bar. Per di più, in questo caso, con la possibilità di assaporare l'uccisione con la certosina pazienza del cecchino. Niente di più lontano dal mio orrore verso la guerra.

Even more than in a previous case, when I read the biography of one of the Navy Seals involved in the operation that killed Bin Laden, I was astonished by the absolute confidence that Mr. Kyle had that he was doing the right thing, when killing enemies, or punching somebody in the face in a bar. And in this case it is even more startling, giving his ability to savor the kill through the patience of a sniper. Nothing is farther removed from the horror I feel, when I think of war.
