Chosen Prey - John Sandford

Uno dei pochi romanzetti thriller che ho letto negli ultimi anni, ad interrompere la serie infinita di saggi. Parte di una saga ideata dal giornalista e vincitore del Premio Pulitzer John Camp (aka John Sandford), narra di un serial killer che strangola giovani donne bionde e che alla fine viene scovato dall'ispettore di polizia Lucas Davenport, eroe di turno della serie di romanzi. I capitoli incentrati sull'indagine hanno lo stesso ritmo serrato di una puntata da un'ora di un serial TV (tipo Criminal Minds or roba simile), ma si sviluppano su 300 pagine. Noiosissimi invece (e per fortuna pochi) i capitoli incentrati sul serial killer e i suoi tormenti psicologici, troppo lenti e distonici rispetto all'adrenalina del resto del libro.

One of the few thrillers I've read in the last few years, amid dozens of economic, political and sociology essays. Part of a saga invented by journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner John Camp (aka John Sandford), the novel tells the story of a serial killer that strangles young blond girls and eventually is caught by inspector Lucas Davenport, the unmistakable hero of the saga. The chapter that narrates investigations have the same rushed pace of a TV series' one hour episode, but are 300 pages long; so kudos for that! The chapters that describe the tormented life of the serial killer are instead very boring; they're too slow and not in line with the adrenaline rush of the rest of the story.
