Davvero interessante questa prospettiva: l'Unione Europea ha subito una battuta d'arresto con la Costituzione, perché non ha osato abbastanza. La mancanza di un'ambiziosa idea per l'Europa del futuro ha fatto si che molti si siano rifugiati nel conservativismo. Guy Verhofstadt, primo ministro belga ci da la sua ricetta: lanciamo un progetto ambizioso di stato federale europeo in cui le singole nazioni rinuncino ad una parte della propria sovranità per un bene superiore in ambito fiscale, socio-economico, di pubblica sicurezza, di politica estera e di politica di difesa. Le soluzioni collaborative funzionano meglio di quelle singole, soprattutto quando c'è un potenziale effetto di networking, e quello dell'Europa unita è sicuramente uno di questi, come mostrato dai benefici della moneta comune. Purtroppo ancora una volta la paura, l'ignoranza e soprattutto l'egoismo dei singoli rendono tutto questo un bel sogno, un piano ambizioso, ma difficile da realizzare
This book puts forward an extremely fascinating idea: the European Union has faced serious drawbacks over the last years (such as the "NO" to a common constitutional law), because it did not dare enough! The lack of ambitions for the future of Europe pushed many to take refuge into conservativism. Guy Verhofstadt, Belgium's prime minister, gives his recipe: let's launch an ambitious project for a Federation of European States, where single nations give up their sovereignty, in fiscal policies, foreign policies, security and defense, for the good of the entire region. Collaborative solutions work better, especially when there is the opportunity of network effects; and the EU is certainly such an example as demonstrated by the common currency. Unfortunately, fear, ignorance and greed of single countries, people and politicians make this vision of beautiful dream and ambitious plan that will be very difficult to put in practice.
