Abbastanza divertente, lo stile mi piace un sacco, è di quelli che ti prendono e si fanno leggere in due giorni, ottimo considerando che è il primo romanzo di questa scrittrice. Ma la storia, molto meno surreale di quello che il titolo farebbe supporre, è noiosetta, il plot pesantemente ripetitivo. Un ottantaquattrenne ucraino emigrato in Inghilterra dopo la seconda guerra mondiale si sposa con una trentacinquenne biondona ucraina in cerca di soldi e passaporto, il resto è tutta una ripetizione dei casini che ne scaturiscono e dei goffi tentativi che le due figlie Nikolaj fanno per tirarlo fuori dai guai.
Moderately funny. I liked the style a lot. It is the kind of writing that you get caught in and you cant stop reading until you have finished, which takes not more than 2 days. This is particularly good considering this is the first novel of Ms. Lewycka. But the story, not as surreal as the title would suggest, is rather boring, the repetitiveness of the plot almost turns into dullness. An eighty-four years old Ukrainian, who migrated to England after World War II, gets married with a thirty-five years old blondie from Ukraine, who is looking for money and a UK passport. The remaining part of the story is just a repetition of messy situations that come out of the strange couple and of the goofy efforts that Nikolaj's daughters put in place to solve the problem.
