Un paese in ginocchio, dopo 70 anni di regime comunista, caduto dalla padella nella brace è oggi in mano ad un gruppo ristretto di oligarchi che fra mafia e transazioni finanziare senza scrupoli hanno relegato la maggior parte della popolazione nella povertà. Il tutto sugellato da un presidente, ex capo dei servizi segreti, che si è circondato di amici e protegge il potere dei pochi sottraendo libertà e democrazia di giorno in giorno. In tutto questo, poche voci fuori dal coro sono ammesse in Russia. Anna Politkovskaja era una di queste, è stata barbaramente uccisa, molto probabilmente da quella stessa polizia segreta che il presidente Putin controlla da vicino. Sopprusi e violenza continuano, non solo nella lontana Cecenia dove impazza lo scontro fra terroristi musulmani e "federali" mietendo vittime civili, ma anche a Mosca. Il tutto nel silenzio assoluto delle grandi "democrazie" occidentali che si piegano ai voleri del gas e del petrolio russo. Solo la Corte Europea fa qualcosa, ma con scarsi risultati e con mille ostacoli più o meno espliciti che il governo russo cerca di frapporre fra la Corte e i suoi cittadini. Speriamo che arrivino altre 10, 100, 1000 Anna Politkovskaja!
A country brought to its knees after 70 years of communism, which ends up even worse, under control of few oligarchs who between mafia and crony capitalism relegated the majority of the population to poverty. All of that reinforced by a president, former head of secret services, that with his friends and protects oligarchies and shrinks liberty and democracy for the average citizen. Few people have the strength to raise their voice against this regime. Anna Politkovskaja was one of those and she was brutally killed, most likely by the same secret police that the president has well under control. Violence continues, not only in remote Cecenia where terrorist and federal forces kill more civilians than one another members, but also in Moscow. And all happens while the big western democracies bend over to get access to Russian oil and gas. Only the European Court of Justice does something, but with scarce results due to thousands of more or less explicit obstacles that the Russian government creates for his citizens that want to appeal to the court.
